Kitchen Units

Has anyone here had their kitchen units 'wrapped'

I'd like a new kitchen but can't afford one but someone told me about cupboards being wrapped so I just wondered if anyone could tell me if they had it dont and it works well?

Re: Kitchen Units

I have never seen it in real life but here is a video showing how it's done.

I suppose if your doors are nice and flat, you would get a better result than if they were panelled or had detail on them. It is only self adhesive film so I'm not sure it would last too long (that's just my opinion). If you are skilled with a scalpel you might be ok.

Other options are using kitchen cupboard paint which can look good if your doors are grained or replacing just the doors which is obviously a bit more expensive

Wrapping is qute big in the motortrade these days. They use specialist wrapping vinyl which can be heated using a hot air gun to allow the vinyl to be pushed into all the nooks and crannies. The vinyl is quite durable and though it's not cheap it does cost less than a high quality paint job. The wrapping vinyls don't grip until pressure is applied so are relatively easy to manipulate.

The wife wrapped the daughters kitchen doors, they were just plain flat chipboard doors, it made a huge difference to the decor being white to a light grey.

Re: Kitchen Units

Gosh this thread takes me back to 1991 Queenie

When we left my daughter's father the only house I could afford was an ex-council house. It was quite nice, in that it had been extended and well cared for but the kitchen units were old fashioned.

So I 'Fabloned' rather than 'wrapped' the unit doors and drawer fronts - and by 'ec they looked great if I say so myself.

Give it a whirl lass

Re: Kitchen Units

I have thought about painting the doors in my kitchen but there are so many of them .

I wouldn't dare try 'wrapping' I always get air bubbles under the sticky covering when I am lining draws.

I think the best results are having the doors professionally dipped or sprayed.
