Re: Reliable Satnav

Sat navs always seem to want you to take a main road even though you well know there is a well used short cut

Ej-mostly,we set them on the suzi-bar,behind the cab, these days.
Saves whacking a dv47 on a tree branch, plus helps conceal that you have one.
With a set of 25w boots in-line,the range is circa 30 miles dependent on terrain.
The magnetic base was always favourite, but too easily pinched.

rs-you can adjust the settings for quickest and/or shortest rather than easiest.

the one in my new car looks as if it will direct you to the moon and back( joking). What I do like is it is all now on a micro SD card easily removed by opening the flap on the dashboard. This is on my Nissan Xtrail Tenka and just about 1 yr old end of month. So upgrade is just a question of swapping card for new one in garage when needed

Re: Reliable Satnav

Good stuff,r/s...but you'll still need to change the base unit settings to 'shortest' rather than 'fastest',if you want to take advantage of little-known short cuts. By definition,to a base unit,'fastest' is any road with a 50mph limit or above. Anything other or less, such as a fast road, but with schools, hospitals, govt buildings, factory complexes et al,will be defined by your base unit as 'liable to obstructions'....and 'obstructions by IT'S definition is not necessarily the same as those defined by YOU. [I know,I know...sorry. I have a mate,Byron, who works on the damned things-he's given me HOURS of this stuff! Interesting if you g-a-s...tedium personified if you don't] But satnavs are a REAL passion to him.
