Sat navs...which to buy?

Morning all

I've not been around for a while...apologies. Hope you're all doing well.

I'm looking for some advice.

I want to buy a new sat nav...would you go TomTom or Garmin or something else? And which model?

I don't want to use my phone so I do want a stand alone sat nav.

Thanks

Only have experience of Tom Toms and they seem to be OK for us, I would guess it depends what you need from one we just want to get from A to B a lot of the features we have never used.

Yes I'd agree...I don't need anything too fancy although traffic and speed camera notifications'd be good!

I've had a Tom Tom about 15 years and have found it OK.........but I do have to pay for map updates which I think that they don't have to do now.

Hi Kim, and welcome.

I've had a Garmin Nuvi for some years. While I quite like it, it has (a) sometimes sent me on the wrong way and (b) it doesn't accept computer updates.

If I ever consider getting a new one, I'd then try a Tom Tom.

I prefer a map and compass - they don't send you up stray tracks going nowhere !

I bought a Garmin this year. Asked around a lot, did my homework and it was a bit cheaper than the Tom Tom. Most people said they are equally good.

Re: Sat navs...which to buy?

I have a garmin and I find it's really good, mine has voice command which works quite well ( most of the time ) but sometimes I find myself questioning the directions it sends me on,to be fair I think most of them do this from time to time, the best thing to do is find a website that does comparisons on performance , price ect, also a good feature is the free map updates but it depends what you want to pay

Re: Sat navs...which to buy?

I have used a Garmin for some years now and haven't wound up in the river yet! What I would say is avoid buying one made in China as I did with my first one. It always tried to take me to places in Britain via Hong Kong!
