I thought it was me. But I have the same problem as you Azz. When ever I have them they always seem too hard or have the spots on them.
Where have you been buying them from?

Funny thing is the problem-ones were from Waitrose, but recently I have been going to Morrissons to get them and they have actually been better quality! (No brown spots when home-ripened)

Those are my absolute favorites. So delicious I could eat one every day. Hass avocados, not so much. While I like those too, they don't have the flavor of the Florida avocados, the kind of flavor that leaves you going, "Oh wow... now that's good."

They're only available here like 3 months out of the year and this year we didn't get any at all. I was so sad

We get them all year round here in Canada. Right now they are on sale. A mesh bag of 5 for $3.00

I think they were 55p each. I was going to have one for my lunch today as they felt ripe but when I cut into it it was very hard and I couldn't twist it away from the stone which was disappointing. I had to make a prawn sandwich instead.

I've just had an avocado salad which was delicious.
Avocados from Aldi....four for 1.35 !
Can't see what all the fuss is about, I've never had a problem with 'em

I love putting avocado slices on sandwiches, too. They're also good as baked snacks. I put avocado slices on toast rounds, then top with a slice of tomato, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, then bake in the oven until the cheese is melted.

Aw what a shame - and precisely what I am annoyed about

I did buy a top-of-the-range 'Waitrose One', 'Perfectly Ripe' one yesterday and had half of it today - it was, for once, almost perfectly ripe (just a teeny weeny bit over-ripe). It was what Avocados should be like

I also bought a pack of six that need home-ripening - looked today and they are no where near ripe..
