A worthy post, Carol. The picture alone portrays a deep and meaningful message.
I shall be at my local cenotaph on the 11th November to pay my respects.
Eagerly they accepted the King’s shilling,
Fresh-faced youths responded to the call.
Most caught up in fervent patriotic naivety,
Keenly anticipating a glorious adventure.
Soon nationalistic fantasy confronted grim reality,
Youthful idealism was swiftly obliterated
Amidst a Hellorama of mud, screams and gore.
Those long dead boys call to the living,
When our war is a dusty recollection
Our motives misrepresented and misunderstood,
Please Remember Our Innocence.
I took a short cut through the Priory Park this morning and was stopped in my tracks by the silhouette of a soldier.
To commemorate the centenary of the end great war the council has placed the silhouettes called 'The Silent Soldiers' in a number of parks in the county. They really do make you pause for thought .

We have one of those soldiers at our village war memorial.
