Garden Shredder

Do you have a garden shredder/composter, I am looking for one for branches up to 40mm?
Any ideas please to which one I should buy?

Re: Garden Shredder

We have a Draper, and they are supposed to cut up to 40mm but hubby is a bit dubious about that size. 25mm or 30mm easily
They are brilliant for making mulch for spreading on the borders.

We have a Bosch and it's given good service for years, but like Jan said, 40mm is a tough ask for a domestic sized machine so it may be worth taking professional advice at a specialist garden machinery outlet....

Re: Garden Shredder

There are two types of machine. The first I will call the Bosch type, these mince the branches and stems using intermeshing cutters , rather like the old fashioned mincing machine. They are not noisy and last a long time. The other type I will call the DIY store cheapie ( Virtually all other than Bosch) These have a fast spinning cutter inside to smash the wood to shreds, they are horribly noisy and do not last very long.

Hello and welcome Eric, thank you for your input, it is very hard to choose a shredder without seeing them working.
I am obviously looking for one that minces rather than chips, I believe they are the ones with the roller cutters, I have tried to find out which ones to look at, I shall probably go to somewhere like B & Q to see them first, then try and find someone who has one I could see working.

I can advise that I have a Bosch one I bought a good few years back and have abused it mercilessly , when I was making paper logs for the wood burning stove I rolled up several hundred newspapers and pushed them through to shred them together with shrub branches. Took it all in it's stride.

Re: Garden Shredder

I have ordered the Bosch 2200 like you and Barry, should get it on Thursday from down South.
Takes some beating this Internet, no delivery charge, and cheapest I could find.

Mine's a Bosch AXT 220 Arthur, one of the quietest ones as it rotates slowly but very powerfully and can shred material up to around 40mm....

Re: Garden Shredder

Shredder arrived yesterday along with the Garotta, today should be the incinerator and the agitator, then all I am waiting for is the composters, then Wrinklys Garden Composters Ltd. can be launched.
