Acorns!!!

The bane of my life are acorns!! Does anyone have a tip for getting them off the lawn? I am surrounded by oak trees and have a dog...and acorns are not good for animals, unless you keep pigs
Every day I have to rake the lawn..but there must be a quicker way surely?

Re: Acorns!!!

Garden vac perhaps? We use one for getting leaves out of the border and is quite effective.

I have a garden vac that is good for leaves but acorns just seem to defeat the machine..

Re: Acorns!!!

When I was gardening at the front of the house yesterday there was the constant 'ping' of acorns falling on the car and my head I could have done with a hard hat .

If the lawn is dry I sweep the acorns up with a stiff bristle brush but often just leave them for the birds and squirrels. Chloe doesn't go in the front garden which is open to the lane so no danger of her eating them.

Re: Acorns!!!

step them into the lawn and if your lucky come spring you may have plently of little saplings to pot up... to give a friend an oak tree is considered a sign of friendship here.

I you knew how many acorns I get fron neighbouring trees, I would be lynched if I gave them away
It is seriously crunchy on my back lawn...and I have tokeep the dog aware from them otherwise I wouldn't be bothered..

Re: Acorns!!!

Know what you mean about the dog Decaf, my youngest one would certainly take them to play with and probably crunch up, so it's dodgy isn't it. I would have thought the same as Meg, and try a stiff broom.

Re: Acorns!!!

Isn't it acorns that you can make coffee out of? That would be handy!
