Meanwhile at Goldman Sachs ...

More good news, despite Brexit

Well Goldman Sachs has announced that it is moving hundreds of jobs out of London – to a new office in Birmingham by the end of the year, creating “several hundred” new jobs in what will be the company’s biggest UK office outside London

You hit the nail on the head donks!
Why did the firm choose Birmingham for its new office location?
Many people have asked ‘Why Birmingham’, and quite simply we go where the talent takes us.

When opening a new office, we look for locations that are fast paced, vibrant, innovative, full of culture, and of course, deliver quality talent; Birmingham perfectly fits that bill and is home to many excellent universities. We are very excited to be expanding our footprint in the UK.

What do engineers at Goldman Sachs do?
People are often surprised to hear that engineers make up a quarter of our global employees, to put that into context that’s over 10,000 engineers across 63 cities.

Ultimately our engineers solve problems, and build solutions. Our engineering teams underpin all of our business functions, from building Marcus UK, our consumer banking platform, to supporting our asset management business, and global market traders.*We have a strong apprenticeship culture and our engineers come from many different backgrounds.

It's not expanding in the EU ... it knows where its future is.

If I read your intro correctly it is london losing out on those hundreds of jobs moving to the north, not any of their EU offices.

Goldman Sachs is just the latest to move some of its office staff to Birmingham. HSBC moved its HQ there in 2018: https://www.about.hsbc.co.uk/news-an...pens-its-doors.

Engineering will be the first division to build out in Birmingham with a mix of hiring and employee transfers. Similar to other strategic locations, multiple areas of the firm will also leverage this opportunity and we expect to have a headcount of several hundred across a number of divisions over time.

The Birmingham office is an exciting opportunity to build on the successful expansion of other strategic locations and technology hubs in Europe in recent years, including Warsaw and Stockholm.
