After Brexit: Frexit, warns Barnier

Macron told to learn lessons of Brexit ‘or France will follow’

'France could quit the EU if President Macron leaves it “too late” to learn the lessons from Brexit, Michel Barnier warned today.

The comments from the former Brexit negotiator, 70, who is pushing to take a leading role on the French right, come as Marine Le Pen leads in opinion polls ahead of elections next year.

“We could draw some lessons from Brexit for ourselves. It’s now too late for the UK but not for us,”'

'“We can find, not just in the UK, but here in France, in the northern and eastern regions . . . citizens who want to leave the EU,” he said after leaving his role in Brussels last month.

“They say the EU did not respond to legitimate desires of citizens, there is social unrest or anger, one might say, because there’s no protection of external borders, some people say, immigration flows are impacting us . . . and Europe is also often criticised for its red tape and complexity.”'

You could read it before you replied DM because no; he is very clearly warning the EU and Macron that France might well leave too if they don't get their acts together PDQ.
It might already too late.
But then Barnier is kinda after Macron's job so who knows?

I bet you get no mail since you seem to revel in shooting the postman?

Discuss Solly, don't get so personal and upset just because you don't like what a little French bloke is warning you about but you will ignore his words at your own risk.
If Brexit upset you so, Frexit might just push you overboard.

He also said Brexit was a lesson for the EU, which he said must show its 450 million citizens that the 27-state bloc benefited all, and was not the distant, uncaring bureaucracy it is often portrayed to be by supporters of Brexit.

Barnier defended his record of negotiating the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement signed in January 2020 and the ensuing trade deal clinched on 24 December 2020, although he questioned whether he and Britain’s chief negotiator David Frost really understood one another.

Last Ferbuary Barnier announced he was setting up a political faction under the name “Patriot and European”, fuelling rumours that he was mulling a possible bid in next year’s presidential election.

Damn! That is a downside of having you on ignore. Only when not logged in I can see your pists. But the plus is so much more, being spared you drivel and spite makes for more civilized debating with bread and others.
