Brussels Needs Britain, Says PwC

Perfect timing and a confirmation to go with other threads discussing passporting and mutual recognition regarding finance.

Worthy of its own thread.

Global professional services firm PwC has knocked the EU down a peg, insisting the bloc needs Britain because it is home to the City of London, which dwarfs the EU’s collection of middling financial hubs.

I read the same article in the Express this morning. It's good to know that the City is still reigning supreme.

BTW, I learnt last week that "middling" is a term from milling flour, along with "the rule of thumb". The miller takes a small sample of flour in the palm of the hand and rubs it with his/her thumb (the rule of thumb). If the flour is fine, that's OK. If it's a bit rough to the touch, then it's "fair". If it's really rough, then it's "middling" or basically rubbish and should be discarded. So, we have the other expression "fair to middling" meaning slightly under the weather.

Nice one Percy !

I always say I'm "fair to middling" when asked how I am and never knew where it came from.

Hi

We are out, that is good.

They have to look after themselves and we look after ourselves.

We left, that is good.

They will make their decisions, we make ours.

They do not need us and we do not need them.

Let's see. We have Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Milan... I think we'll be fine.
And let’s not forget the Warsaw Stock Exchange the biggest exchange in Eastern Europe.

Oh, there will be negotiations on a deal for banking and services. In the EU's due time. Don't forget, the EU holds all the cards.

All of them combined aren't equal to either New York or London, they are little boys playing in a men's club.
From Bread's link:
"The report was based on a massive survey of CEOs worldwide. “Not only has the UK grown in appeal to some of our newer trade targets, but it remains an important market among our European neighbours, with 15% of Germany’s CEOs saying the UK is a top 3 growth target, compared with 13% in 2019,” said Kevin Ellis, chairman and senior partner at PwC in the UK."

Well, yes. However you have to consider, that leading experts have predicted a very soon implosion of the Euro and a break up of the EU.
That means about up to 27 contracts with then former-EU-members.

That's why the EU hasn't been able to bully Switzerland yet after years of trying and it's also why the Swiss & the UK reached a deal, is it?
