Boris Johnson denies responsibility*

for Brexit fishing licence delays

French fishermen blockade British catches arriving on the continent in protest at new UK bureaucracy

Further blockades could be disastrous for the UK industry, which is already suffering from the effects of Brexit. Two-thirds of UK-caught fish are exported to the continent, and some seafood exporters say the new border controls are wreaking havoc on their businesses.

However, Downing Street on Friday denied responsibility for the delays in issuing licences to the French fishermen and said the reaction was “unjustified”.

Imagine: all those happy fish caught in british waters by happy english fishermen, stranding on the beaches of normandy. What a waste! https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-b1836540.html

That would be a huge waste. On the positive side however, the independent reports that - at least I understand it with my poor Englisjh - the UK has managed to acquire a huge percentage of new customers for milk and cream outside the EU. Meat was about 30% as well IIRC.

Personally I do care litte, being vegan. However good work.

I read somewhere that it was the fault of Brussels for delaying providing the evidence that the disgruntled fishermen needed before they could apply for a licence.

Isn't that why the EU is throwing millions of Euros at French fishermen; because they know that Brexit will decimate their business?

Yes indeed, the EU has a big fund available to alleviate effects of brexit. Contrary to british government who urge the british fishermen to grab the possibilities of brexit, but leave them empty handed.

But, but, brexit was all about getting back your fish. Boris sold the deal he closed on it as wonderful, the ERG studied it and declared it sovreignty compliant, and now you tell me it costs your tax payers money? Impossible! Brexit went wrong, after four years deliberations in your government?

Your comprehension is as usual pretty poor.

We are indeed getting back more and more of our own fish every year if you cared enough to check.
It's your beloved EU that is seeing the really huge sums of compensation go to your fishermen as a result.
Much of ours is to build a new fleet in order to increasingly take advantage of our own fish.
