Urban Legends?

An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend, is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true.

My favorite is the vanishing hitch hiker, a creepy one in which a taxi driver takes a woman to her address, only to find on arrival that she disappears. The resident of the house explains that her daughter was killed in a car crash, but returns home every year on the anniversary of her death.
I believed it the first time I heard, but later discovered that is a common anecdote all over the world. Whats your view on urban legend. It seems to meet a basic need for folks all over to want to experience the unexplainable,to be amazed, astounded, taken out of the common or garden predictable existence.

Re: Urban Legends?

Well, there were the tales of Spring Heeled Jack in Victorian times who was reputedly able to hop and leap to alarming heights. He was reportedly seen in various parts of the country and, those who say they saw him, said he was terrifying as he had clawed hands and red eyes, but there were varying descriptions of him.

Fact, or fiction?

Aw, I thought this thread would have provoked more interest because I think it's a fascinating subject. Ah well, not to worry.
