The U K made a great mistake when they started getting that extra revenue from their oil fields in the North sea. Instead of saving it, as Norway has done, they spent it all, and now its too late as the amount of oil that the U k is getting from its oil fields is diminishing. Norway saved her revenue, and it is now the fund for the next generations of pensioners, it now stands at well over £400, trillion Pounds, and is now called the pension fund. The U K could have had a fund, not as much , but still a useful amount which they could have used in a similar way for the pensions of the future and enabled everyone to have a respectable pension without in the main any needs for other benefits or making pensioners feel degraded

Re: New £144 Pension rate masks stealth cuts

I am disgusted at this very unfair change to pensions.
I was born on 1st August 1952 and will be entitled to claim my state pension on 9th November 2014 which is approx £110 per week. I will not be entitled to the flat rate pension of £144 to be introduced from April 2016 even though I have worked 44 years of my life. Therefore I willbe approx £34 per week worse off than someone retiring April 2016. How can this be fair?

Hi Carole I was cross at first because I retired a couple of years ago so won't be eligible for the flat rate of £144.

However when I thought about it I didn't do so badly having been given a pension at the age of 60. I understand those who get the higher flat rate will have to work to the age of 65.

I think you will be somewhere in between when you are eligible for your pension, 62 I think.

Thank goodness I didn't have to work to the age of 65. Poor things they are welcome to their few extra few £ a week for working an extra 5 years.

It's more than a few quid. Over the course of 20 years that's a lot of money!! 20 years being the average amount of time after retirement a person lives
