Re: Islamaphobia

Hi

We are right to be wary of the Radical Muslims.

His comments are to my mind, not Islamophobic, they are shared by many Muslims both here in the UK and abroad.

The Radicals are Sunni and one specific sect, they are a tiny, tiny proportion of Muslims worldwide.

Unfortunately they have the oil, the money and the organisation to influence others.

We are far too soft on them, particularly here in the UK.

Re: Islamaphobia

This is a furore over nothing. Whipped up by the media on a slow news day I latched on to by the left-wing elite and the PC brigade in order to try to discredit Boris Johnson over his accurate and amusing description of women wearing the burka.
What next, cartoonists pilloried over their portrayal of nuns as penguins? Burglars being drawn wearing striped jerseys and masked complaining about being stereotyped?

The sad thing is that in this false indignation the main thrust of his article has been lost and I quote the Prime Minister.

"What's important is do we believe people should have the right to practise their religion and, in the case of women and the burka and niqab, to choose how they dress.
" I believe women should be able to choose how they dress."

After all, it is not a requirement of the Muslim faith yet many women are forced to wear it by their menfolk. This was an article in support of the emancipation of Muslim women and the opening up of a debate the which the PC brigade and the social elite don't want to have.

It's ironic isn't it that this subject should be posted by the arch name caller himself, the man who specialises in insulting and being offensive to all the posters who disagree with him?

Edited to say: The quote was attributed to the PM and is now corrected.

Re: Islamaphobia

Although I am not a fan of Boris Johnson who so clearly means to depose Teresa May and become PM we do have still have free speech in this country .
Moreover he's wrong about the similarity between the niqab and letter boxes .
Letter boxes are far more jolly.

An amusing anecdote here from Ephraim Hardcastle in today's Mail...

"BELFAST comic Frank Carson might have something to say about Boris Johnson’s criticism of the burka. Frank, who died in 2012 aged 85, told an apocryphal tale about answering his front door to a burka-wearing official and immediately stepping back inside, closing the door and opening the letter box flap from the inside to inquire: ‘How do you like it?’"

Re: Islamaphobia

I think we should remember WHY Johnson said what he did. If he’s not simply a baffoon then he is pandering to the far right of the Tory party. As an SNP member, maybe Johnson as Tory leader would be a good thing, would help our cause no end.
As a humanist, I’ve no time for any religion, but this type of rhetoric plays right into the extremists hands. For the sake of balance what next? Banning Orthodox Jew dress? Banning Sikh turbans? Buddhist monk dress? Etc.

Oh for goodness sakes. They're all at it this morning. Got to be seen to be making a statement in defence of the minorities.
Throw our parliament up in the air. Bring discord amongst the people , have anti-Semitism on one side and anti-Islam on the other.
See mayhem rise in our streets, because it will happen.

Maybe Boris thought he could contribute to a balancing act between Labour and Tories.

Personally I think the comment is hilarious, not because it's anti-Islamic as it isn't, but because our British sense of humour still lives ...just ! and we don't need long faced minority groups telling us how we should change our opinions and culture to suit their lack of understanding about the people they choose to live with.
