Rhian, My daughter is also a teacher and she also has the chesty cold and can hardly speak but she still insists on going into school.
I said, she should stay off as she will spread it to everyone but she won’t!

There's a nasty bug going around. Unfortunately I have it too. It's that January chesty cold with the wracking cough that lingers for weeks. Must be awful if you are a teacher and have to talk when you have something like this. Hope you feel better soon Rhian.

Had to drag myself into work today as something urgent needed doing. Ended up back home sick in the afternoon. Planning to work from home the rest of the week as it is just too busy to take sick leave.

Lemon tea is my go to cure. Has to be Darjeeling. If it gets worse I make the Italian granny cough syrup I found on the web. It's olive oil, honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice heated on a pan. Hot milk with butter is good too. You can add honey if you can bear the sweetness.

I took two days off work to be with her.

Not boasting, but I haven't had a cold (that I've noticed) since I left teaching six years ago.
Perhaps it's just that you build up a resistance as you get old(er), although I am only a very young 66!
