Lanzarote - good places to stay

Have you been to Lanzarote? We have always gone to Tenerife but I thought Lanzarote would be nice for a change. I am not sure, I've heard it called Lanzagrotty, but it does look interesting and "lunar".

Can anyone recommend the best location? I have seen Arrecife and Yaiza come up as the main resorts. Would you recommend Lanzarote or is it really grotty?

I have been to Lanzarote around twenty times over the last forty years. Stayed in many places in the early days but now it is always Playa Blanca down south of the island around thirty minutes drive from Arricife. Lots of nice restaurants, a small sandy beach in the town but a ten minute walk from a very large and sandy beach. Plenty of lovely sightseeing trips available. In fact i shall be there again in early November.
