Re: Fiona Onasanya

Has vowed to continue as MP for Peterborough, and probably expects to be re-elected. How complicated life gets when people lie. If she receives a custodial sentence her career is finished but is very determined and totally unabashed.

Onasanya won her seat as a Labour MP by just 607 votes from the Conservatives in 2017. However, she's no longer a member of the Labour party so she's no longer a Labour MP.

Under the current rules, a by-election for the seat she holds, now as a technical "independent", will be automatically triggered if Onasanya receives a sentence of more than 12 months imprisonment, even if suspended.

Alternatively, a by-election can be initiated by a recall petition generated by 10% of the constituency's voters.

It's not likely that she will remain an MP but I would have thought the chances of returning as a practising solicitor in "real" life would be pretty slim, too.

This lying toe rag is the first to go to jail ...

Let’s have a sweepstake on resigning since she hasn’t been sacked like mere mortals

Disgraced former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya is jailed
https://mol.im/a/6643401

The 35-year-old, who has been kicked out of the Labour Party, has faced repeated calls to quit office since a jury found her guilty of perverting the course of justice - but continues to represent her constituents.
The Peterborough MP was found guilty of lying to investigators after her car was caught doing 41mph in a 30mph zone in July 2017 - weeks after she won her seat.

Fiona Onasanya: Peterborough MP jailed in speeding case

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-47040912

An MP has become the first sitting politician for 30 years to be jailed after she lied to police when she was issued with a speeding ticket.

Solicitor Fiona Onasanya had denied being behind the wheel when her car was spotted being driven at 41mph in a 30mph zone, in July 2017.

She has been jailed for three months after a re-trial at the Old Bailey.

The court heard evidence Onasanya was texting as well as speeding, during the summer recess.

Festus Onasanya was jailed for 10 months after admitting perverting the course of justice

Sentencing Onasanya, Mr Justice Stuart-Smith told he she had made a "disastrous decision" and that "evidence that you didn't know what you were doing, as a qualified solicitor is incredible".
Frankly, she should have got the same sentence, if not greater, then her brother ......

But ..... justice has been served .....

Re: Fiona Onasanya

Good! Up her own arse and thinks she's above everyone else. This should have meant a by-election in her constituency but instead, among much public anger, she is still being allowed to be an MP while in prison.

Definition of justice is served/done
: proper punishment or fair treatment is given by the legal system
I'd already said that, IMO, the sentence was inadequate (hopefully, it will be increased on appeal) so I meant "justice has been served" in the sense that Onasanya had been punished, not just with jail time but with the loss of her position as an MP and her occupation as a solicitor.
