Re: Iron Bridge

Nice bridge, nice photo. I wonder if the bridge has paid for itself yet.

Great photos, Realspeed. Is the bridge open to the public and, if so, is there still a toll to pay?

Hi

Just finished a huge refurbishment, fully open and no tolls to pay.

A fantastic place to visit, historic buildings, a huge Living Museum, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

The home of Coalport Pottery, Aga Cookers.

Re: Iron Bridge

Had a week in the Black Country around ten years ago and remember Ironbridge well, as well as Blists Hill living museum and some potteries, places all well worth a visit if you like history as I do.

Re: Iron Bridge

if you are around that area you will miss a lot if you don't go to the Black Country Museum.
All the buildings and been moved and reconstructed exactly as were but in one place. you can easily spend a day there and even go into the tunnels under Dudley Castle in a canal boat

You won't find a better fish and chip shop than this

cooked with goose fat? the old fashioned way, I have had fish and chips in many places but this is the best I have ever eaten. AS the photo shows people queue up a long time before it opens so they can get a seat inside

you can even go into a mine shaft to see how coal mining was done. Houses are also open for viewing

there is/was a blacksmith at work- let alone an old fashions fair -garage with cars and motorbikes.
when we were here a reinactment of the chain makers strike

Re: Iron Bridge

You can get to Bridgnorth by rail on SVR, sadly it cannot be re-connected to Ironbridge. Amazing place to visit.

Sounds a lot like Beamish:-

Brilliant place - used a lot in films - especially the Catherine Cookson type.

Been there lots of times as they keep adding to it.
