Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

I'm doing my best. I wash my hands as soon as I enter the house.

I've washed the car door handles & steering wheel with Dettol & all the door handles & light switches in the house.

The thought struck me yesterday when I returned from shopping after taking all these precautions - the tins & packets in the shopping bags could be contaminated with the virus and so could the shopping bags themselves.

You can't win can you?

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

One good thing is although we may not care at having to curtail some things our generation are probably better equipped mentally to dealing with this 'staying at home'...whereas those in their teens etc will no doubt find it quite difficult.

When younger we have all gone through that "it won't happen to us" attitude and it seems now from the stats that the youngsters can prove this point so it would be very hard to contain them.

This virus has brutally singled out that we have to accept age as a factor and I am in a way thankful that it has given me the choice because I can and do take the neccessary prescribed precaution.

LQ I echo your good wishes.

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

I'm not bothered by all the fuss. I've been close to death twice in the last 3 years and have no fear of dying any more. I refuse to lower myself to panic buy anything and all I do is wash my hands more often. If I get it, I get it. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

I hope everyone stays safe too.
I was thinking, there's been a lot of breast cancer and bowel cancer deaths in my family, after seeing the suffering I think dying of a virus might be preferable.

I know for sure that my failing local hospital (built for a local population half the size) already in emergency measures with ambulances queuing round the block hasn't a cat in hell's chance of coping with an epidemic and I don't intend being one of their failures.
Well said Meg and all others who agree with LQ. I too am 71 years of age and savvy enough to know we will all have to do what we think is best for ourselves. We have a HUGE family all living locally. I have told them all that HWMO and I are self-isolating ourselves and if they want to see our ugly mugs and chat unfortunately it will have to be via Skype or Phone until the foreseeable future. I was almost in tears on the phone when I told them, but we just cannot take the risk with my health problems.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is that I am in the high a risk bracket and guess we are way down the list of priorities with the authorities, as polite and helpful as everyone is, so we are taking matters into our own hands and ensuring we look after ourselves as best as we can. Doors locked, no-one allowed in, washing of hands and surfaces often, food delivered to the doorstep. Dogs being walked just once a day at the quietest time and it's the garden and extra-large pads if necessary. That's all we can really do and just pray for the best.

So don't ever feel foolish LQ, you are doing exactly what you should be doing. Certainly, anyone who is stupid enough to make fun of you are themselves the fools.

Stay safe all.

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

I'm not in the least concerned for Myself, but I'm very concerned for My Family as most of Them can't work from Home as suggested..They work with hundreds of others in Factories/warehouses/shops/hospitals etc...I've lived in semi isolation for many years,so it's no hardship for Me to do it full time for a few weeks/months even....I know there will be some Members on the OFF who may contract this vile virus over the coming months, and I can only wish and hope those who do will recover well... to All,x

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

Yes it s worrying, and part of me believes the government deliberately used a scare tactic, the reason I believe was to combat a blasé attitude many have/had.

Lets do the maths, thanks to Bruce who posts a chart that monitors new cases etc.

You can see here in the UK its approximately one person in 83,000,00 that's infected, sure this figure will rise but not a lot.

Remember over seventies also get the milder symptoms, which are 80% of all infections.

Looking at these odds, coupled with common sense on hygiene, keeping away from crowds, following good advice given on here, the reality is you're not going to catch it.

But we'll still worry its natural, but sometimes putting things in perspective, with a positive attitude helps.
