One of the reasons I voted Brexit Swim.
Ditto, would pay more for good quality rather than the cheap tat from far east.

Maybe there will be 'a silver lining' to all this , it will demonstrate even more than our desire to leave the EU that we need to be a lot more self-sufficient, a trait we have lost over the years..

Hi

Something of a misconception here.

It is not all cheap tat.

It is high quality electronics on which we depend for our daily lives.

TV Screens, mobiles, computer , the most reliable cars in the world.

It is not all cheap clothes from Primark.

To catch up with them we need to change dramatically.

Their unions do not fight the bosses, they work together.

They educate their children to a much higher standard than we do.

They have proper paid apprenticeships which turn out highly qualified workers with a job for life.

We have been taken over by the money men, the asset strippers, short term gain for the few.

We have a long way to go to get back to being a manufacturing country.

We can do it if we put our minds to it.

No we can't. As a manufacturing nation Britain is finished. Too much competition, too many people, no sense of national identity let alone pride, multi-society being presented as multicultural (which it isn't) and too much debt.

Our standards of living is unaffordable yet "entitlement-ism" is preventing the reduction that is needed and being delivered by the ever increasing issuing of Gilts and the housing sector providing more foreign debts.

Whatever remains after this Kung Flu is still very difficult to even guess much less forecast but ---- it's not going to be nice and NOTHING like what we had become used to.

The list is endless and we are playing catchup.
This is wrong as Dyson now has a facility at the historic airforce base RAF Hullavington:-

Can't read that article, as I won't turn off my ad blocker. I get that a lot on newspaper sites.

Here you are Tiff....in a nutshell....

{The race to deliver much-needed ventilators to hospitals fighting coronavirus received welcome news today from British entrepreneur Sir James Dyson. A spokesman for Dyson confirmed to Forbes that an initial order of 10,000 units from the U.K. government has been placed, and work will begin immediately at the historic airforce base RAF Hullavington.}
