Re: Making/altering clothes.

Gosh, you clever lot.

I used to do a lot of dressmaking in the 70s (as you did in those days).

Then I gave it up and started knitting instead.
Then gave that up and went back to dressmaking again. But, this time by hand. I found it really relaxing doing it by hand (gawd, that sounds bad ). Just using cotton fabrics mind, nothing heavy.

Then we got the boat, so I did all the fabrics and curtaining, using the machine.
Then, other's asked if I would do curtains for theirs. So I did. Which put me right off sewing. I hated doing curtains.
So I gave up again.

Fast forward...
When I had a conservatory built in however many houses ago it was, I couldn't afford blinds for the conservatory so I did those.

Then gave up.

Since moving here I've just done a couple of very small window blinds (more like panels than blinds) and cushions covers, by hand again.

Hands are letting me down now

Sounds like you are pretty clever too Pesta, I do for myself and family but I'd not attempt for anyone else that's nearly professional !

Nah I wouldn't say that, but I do like to do things as best I can.
I admire people who can turn their hands to anything and design stuff. Oooh I wish I could do that.

Both my sister and I remember odds and sods about our mum, before she was poorly. She was wonderful at making coats. Only recently we've been remembering those coats she made for us. We can't remember dresses or anything else, just those wonderful coats.
