Ah, but the pictures we see of her are what she looked like in later life.

Most people lose their beauty when they age.

Not that I have, of course.

Re: Victoria

I doubt they would have had so many children if she had been that hideous in real life.

She mourned John Brown too and was buried with a lock of his hair.

She wasn't as pretty as Jenna Coleman, but not that bad when she was young.

I have the DVD of Mrs Brown, she was friends with him after her husband died, so the film leads us to believe, unless that is based on truth too, but I didn't know about the lock of hair.

Mmm. A bit chubby round the chops, I have to say.

Mind you, the trouble with paintings is that the artist may, either intentionally or unintentionally, modify reality in some degree.

Re: Victoria

I'm not watching the series but I am interested in Queen Victoria - here's the first photograph ever taken of Queen Victoria (aged 25), with her daughter the Princess Royal, 1844.

Those chops are decidly chubby .....

The previously mentioned painting is from 1842 by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.

Yes indeed. She could do with losing a bit of weight.

Presumably good living, as they say!
