Re: Petition for proportional representation

My Father always said this was a good idea & he backed it at the time, far fairer than our present system, but forgotten about for some time. Father died 30 years ago.

Agreed realspeed.

I just think it could lead to a lot of unsavoury acts to get to the end result by some. Also, it would mean that specific areas with predominately one party syndrome like London, could rule the roost. The rest of us in other parts of the country might not get represented at all.

Yes, of course.

I think that everyone knows by now that the MPs may have to debate it, but if they don't agree with it it will just disappear.

Re: Petition for proportional representation

I'd also want a ban on parachuting Party goodies into safe seats!

i.e. I think my rep should live in the area he/she represents.

Further, I think my rep should have his/her office in our constituency and go up to London only for major votes.

Most Companies have lots of their meetings on line, these days, why can't MPs?

Re: Petition for proportional representation

We can be united in this at least. I signed too. Mind you this idea was rejection the referendum of 2011 when only 42% of the electorate voted, make of that what you will. I imagine the two major Westminster parties will oppose it for self preservation reasons.

I have signed too. Solasch very kindly explained much about proportional representation and I think it is a much fairer system of voting than our first past the post that always favours the two main culprits.

I really hope it comes to fruition.
