The Vicar of York

He said on News24 today that people at the lower end of the income scale should not feel guilty for shoplifting in the larger stores at this time of the year, . . he had said this preaching in church yesterday.

He's a religious man, . . I think, . . what happened to the commandment . . "thou shalt not steal ?", . . poorer folks hearing his stupid sermon yesterday now perhaps think it's OK to shoplift at Christmas time.

Where do these clowns come from ? . . .

Re: The Vicar of York

Vicars are having a bit of a foot in mouth time recently, aren't they?
There was the army chaplain who expressed some admiration of the taliban for their steadfast faith, and now this guy. I suppose what he was saying that if you're down and out and you feel there's no other way, then taking from a faceless corporation is less personally distressing than breaking into a home, or mugging and is less potentially personally destructive than prostitution.
However, I would have thought that if you were that down on your luck you should approach a good christian anticipating that they would be a good samaritan - or maybe ask the church for assistance?

The man's a plonker, some of the people in senior positions in the church would be laughed out of the real world...

Re: The Vicar of York

Whether it is a from a supermarket or a corner shop taking something without paying is theft. My daughter when a student worked on the check-out at the local Co-Op and one day a customer was picked up by the store detective for stealing two packets of Custard Powder, hidden in his jacket pocket. Hardly much sustainance in that.

I think that some of the modern day vicars do it just as 'a job' whereas years ago, they had a 'calling'......makes a difference IMO.

Re: The Vicar of York

Where would it stop? Let's steal from rich people, let's steal from people that have a little more than us. Let's steal from the church -that's a faceless organisation.

It is totally wrong. And let's face it - nobody starves in this country. He suggests people are in need because they are waiting for their benefits. I suspect they spend most of their money on cigarettes and alcohol (anecdotal evidence only) and not on food. I have more sympathy with pensioners who are struggling on their meagre income after a lifetime of working but he is not encouraging them to turn to stealing.

I think he is after publicity
