Re: What would you miss?

Get yourself a portable generator, they're reasonably priced and run for ages on a gallon of unleaded.
The one I have generates up to 700 watts, that's enough to power a fridge, freezer, the TV and 2 or 3 lights, . . . oh, and the PC.

Thing I'd miss most is petrol.

Re: What would you miss?

We had a power cut just before christmas over 5 hours. I missed the heating for the puppies. I had the puppies in bed with me to keep them warm and read by torchlight.

We often used to have power cuts and quite enjoyed them, we have a calor gas aga and woodburner, loads of candles and would get out the board games.

My mother said that when I was born I was so ugly they slapped the wrong end so I think we must be sisters.

I would certainly miss Tesco Delivery being alone and isolated this winter Tesco have been brilliant.

Re: What would you miss?

I learned to read by candlelight many many years ago when power failures were very common in the Summer, overloaded lines by too many people using AC! But, thank God, rare now as they've upgraded the system/grid, whatever it's called.

Two great posts by Jamie.

I would really miss British weather were we ever to make a permanent move somewhere else. There can't be anywhere else which has such crazy unpredictable weather.

We have lived in the Caribbean for several years and you are right the weather is something that you miss so much. The long evenings in the summer and the changing of the seasons. The only thing I did not miss was November I really don't like the weather in November.

Try Washington, DM! We get everything: hurricanes, tornadoes (rare), floods, blizzards, blistering heat waves, ice storms, you name it!!
