Engines made in Dagenham are shipped to Ford’s plant in Turkey where they are put in Transit vans, many of which are then sold back to UK customers. Ford previously assembled the Transit in the UK but it*closed its Southampton factory in 2013, ending more than a century of vehicle assembly in Britain.
The UK government has given*Ford*£500m in loan guarantees shortly before the US carmaker closes one of its three British factories, with the loss of 1,700 jobs. Ford is closing its engine*plant in Bridgend, south Wales, in September, with the loss of 1,700 jobs.*
The government said the loan guarantee would support Ford exports, as well as helping it switch to electric vehicle manufacture, “safeguarding thousands of British jobs” at Ford’s Transit van design centre in Dunton, Essex, and its Dagenham diesel engine plant.

Yes, pandering to the whims of the 'Save the Planet' brigade we seem to have outlawed the diesel engine, to our cost. Before you can turn your back on an engine that is the shifter of choice, you must first replace it with something better. Electric is sh$te and will never take the place of a diesel.....Most people have more money than sense though and believe all the hype in the media, so to pacify their consciences and give them some high moral ground they accept the sub standard technology willingly....

It was always stated that garbage could only be collected by diesel trucks. Electric wasn't powerful enough. But you can't stop progress I guess.

Totally agree OGF. There is also the fact that the owner of an electric vehicle NEVER owns the battery pack so, when it fails, it has to be replaced by the manufacturer at a cost to the vehicle owner. Then there's the problem of what to do with the duff batteries because they contain toxic chemicals (lithium for starters) and can't be recycled normally. Give me a petrol engined car that's been converted to use LPG any day of the week.
