Have just finished watching it.

No gratuitous violence, as such.

However, pig eat 'pig'? So be it!

The alternative, given the time, was that the whole family would have been evicted and become destitute, despite the rest of the family being hard workers.

The dad had been given plenty of time to reflect and think on the consequences of his actions, yet had continued to be a violent thug towards his family.

I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but maybe the sacrifice of one 'beast' justifies the saving of the family, and the other beasts, namely the pigs, got a good feast out of it too!

It has to be looked at from the point of view of the attitudes of the time..... the family would have been in the poorhouse, or worse, in the gutter, and they wouldn't have survived.
No government benefits to be had then.
Should one violent thuggee brain-dead semi-moron be allowed to condemn his family to no life, and/or a short life of abject misery?

Re: Gentleman Jack.

I just watched the last episode of Gentleman Jack & it was a brilliant series.
Suranne stole the show, she was amazing as Anne.

Re: Gentleman Jack.

Wasn't it brilliant tonight? I'm so glad it had a happy ending and not a cliff hanger!!
Best of all - It will be back ....Hurrah!!!!

The blow of it ending is softened a bit by knowing Poldark is back next week.

I have never watched the new series of Poldark. Didn't believe they could do it better than the original, which I loved.

Ooh, I didn't know that, Carol. Now what we do . . . . Poldark or John Beecham?
Decisons, decisions. .

I don't often watch drama series but really enjoyed this one .
The acting of Suranne Jones was superb and worthy of a BAFTA, I look forward to the next series.

Re: Gentleman Jack.

I saw part of the last episode by accident and was surprised how good it was and how well acted it was. Apart from the unnecessary butchering scenes, I think I have missed something good so might watch on iplayer.
