That's actually nonsense! For ethical, responsible breeders, it is rare that they even break even on a litter, let alone make a profit. When we were breeding, we gave away as many pups as we sold - to friends within the breed who we knew would show and work them and provide wonderful homes. A jealous neighbour once reported us to the Inland Revenue about the money we were making from breeding. Once we provided them with all the details of our outgoings (as well as our income) - we recieved a rather nice rebate as our outgoings on dog breeding were much much more than our income.

Course it is. I agree Mick.

Anyway, unless you know all breeders, you can't say that.

So why did you breed them Mick as a hobby?

Yes - basically as a hobby. We bred very occasionally - mainly to keep our racing team going and to help ensure that our wonderful breed survived and prospered by producing healthy, strong dogs which conformed closely to the way the breed should be. One of the fantastic things about our breed is that if you compare photos of modern dogs with photos of the first few dogs imported from Siberia in the early years of the 20th Century, they still look the same. You can't say that about many breeds. In most breeds, a hundred years of breeding has caused major changes. In our breed - none.
