Yet again another U-turn on what’s good for us and what’s not!

Now we are advised that previous so-called ‘experts’ got it wrong so now we are told something else, this time about alcohol consumption.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-47817650

There seems to be something like this so regularly that I believe it must be getting to the point where people no longer take this 'expert' advice seriously. That’s not even taking into consideration recent Brexit events of which we are all very well aware!

I am teetotal so have no axe to grind in this particular instance. Probably like others though, I have been affected by being first told one thing and then almost the opposite about that same item, usually food.

What would be your comments about this continual changing of advice by so-called ‘experts’, do you take much notice or none at all?

Some people have to justify their own salaries. The question is.. who actually funds these studies and for what purpose?

Quite rightly as you say and common sense is probably the best judge of this. However, not everybody has a good level of common sense. To form common sense information first has to be gained from some source, whatever that may be. Recently I was given information about Type 2 diabetes, that advice was on how to reverse or avoid this. It worked for me so in that case 'expert advice' was worthwhile. The problem in the first place came down to knowledge, which I didn't have, about what food actually does. Nothing to do with common sense just knowledge that was missing from what was just the 'usual' upbringing and education of the 1950s.

Perhaps another thread? Coincidentally though there was also an item today on my local news about Raw Milk and how it's being sold. It is said there are risks associated with this as it's not pasteurised. The point being made though was that providing milk direct to the public gives farmers another way of selling milk. Apparently this is not allowed in Scotland though.

Yes, that word rears it's head again – possible 'greed' and how some people fund their lives and make financial gain in their own field of work!

Read anything on the BBC news or the Daily Fail at your peril.
The media is far more harmful than anything you can put in your mouth......Well! almost anything....

Baz

I take no notice of any of it. I have been hearing conflicting views since I was a kid. It's a bit late to worry about it now. Put it this way. If I reach 80, I'm taking up smoking again assuming I can afford it.

Yes, on some subjects they may be biased or news might be 'false news'. However, in seeking a balanced view on this it also was reported elsewhere on ITV News and in other newspapers too:

I'm so worried that I need a drink to calm me down. I'll be having a couple of beers this afternoon.
