Which Magazine - Best Oven Chips

https://www.which.co.uk/news/2020/02...alf-the-price/

In February 2020 we pitted McCain's straight cut oven chips against eight supermarket offerings to see if any could beat the brand on appearance, texture, and, most importantly, taste.
Top 3

Best Buy Lidl Harvest Basket Straight Cut Frozen Oven Chips – 71%
6p per 100g

Our panel loved the colour, texture and fluffy insides of their chips, but most importantly, the flavour was really satisfying.

They also cost more than three times less than McCain.

Best Buy Iceland Straight Cut Frozen Oven chips – 70%
8p per 100g

Their crispy outsides are particularly nice, perfect for that little bit of crunch alongside your sausage and beans.

McCain Original Oven Chips Straight Cut 5% – 69%
20p per 100g

The appearance, colour, crispiness of the outside and fluffiness of the inside all pleased our panel but flavour isn't as strong or as lip-smackingly good as either Best Buy.
I rarely eat chips but, the next time that I visit my local Lidl, I'll buy a bag .....

The chips were cooked following packaging instructions and served without any condiments.

Which? tested

Aldi Champion Straight Cut Frozen Oven Chips – 67%
6p per 100g

It's tied at the top with Lidl for the cheapest chips we tested, though Aldi can't quite compete on the flavour and texture of Lidl's winning chips.

Our tasters particularly liked their golden-brown colour and their enticing smell when fresh out of the oven.

We quite like these Oven Chips from Waitrose. They're only £1.25 a bag, so good value.

Re: Which Magazine - Best Oven Chips

Does cutting up some potatoes into neat lengths or wedges and giving them a quick steam, rolling them in flour and throwing them in some hot oil count? I buy frozen chips every once in a while when I'm feeling lazy but I always go back to making them from scratch. Takes a bit of practice to get it right and a bit more time but once there..never look back
