World's largest living organism

I thought people might enjoy looking at photos of California's Sequoia Trees. Most of the groves are just to the south of Yosemite National Park.

Sequoia's are "first cousins" to the Redwood Trees. The Sequoia's are much "fatter" than Redwoods, but not quite as tall. The trees you see in the photos were alive, and 1,500 years old, before Christ was even born. Which means they are 3,500 years old.

You will note the black scars on the trees. Those scars are the result of an ancient forest fire, hundreds of years ago.

I can't speak for anyone else , but these trees put me in my place and gives me the proper perspective on what time is all about.

Fabulous trees aren't they. So majestic and imposing.
Hard to gauge their true size too without looking at the pygmy people standing next to them.

I believe there was one even bigger than General Sherman which was cut down in the 1940's, (though I've no idea why).

Wow. Strikingly impressive!

Did you take those photos Bakerman? I just wondered if they have a smell about them, especially the last one?

Yes, there is a very pleasant aroma to them. A nice clean pine forest smell.

It is said that if you drilled a small hole through the base of the tree, it would measure 11 meters thick.
