Contemporaries

Did you expect to outlive many of your contemporaries, are you perplexed by the selection process?

Re: Contemporaries

I have never 'expected' anything, the selection process is random and I am not all perplexed

Re: Contemporaries

Problem is that as you get older, more and more of your contempories die and the only relevant question is "Will I Be Next"....

Re: Contemporaries

I'm not perplexed and I am not sure if there is an actual selection process going on - thats like saying it is a logical process and I don't think we are talking about anything logical when we think of our own mortality and/or the time we have to go. I think it is random and down to luck and genetics (maybe a bit of self preservation thrown in) if we outlive out contemporaries, although I am not sure if I would want to live much longer than the majority of my contemporaries and I don't expect I will.

Re: Contemporaries

I've only just seen this thread, and it's very close to home to me right now as it is four years today (Friday) since my partner of 20 years died very unexpectedly.

Perplexed? No. Mortified? Yes. As daft as this may sound, I honestly believed I'd go before him as he was much fitter than me. Much, much fitter.

Re: Contemporaries

I'm not too sure what you mean by the selection process. Among the animal world it's the
survival of the fittest but even then fate can take a hand, sometimes. But we have medical care that helps us survive what would normally kill us. I have seen people die before their time, and seen people live beyond normal expectations but none of it perplexes me. It's fate as far as I'm concerned.

I think you are deliberately being enigmatic, as all your posts seem to imply. Smart a**e comes to mind. But then again all of my contemporaries were smart a***s too.
So I recognise one
