Its an empty threat by a very desperate Barnier.

He is :

a. Avoiding the pressure for him to send us his draft legal texts like we did to him.

b. Trying to show he is a strong negotiator to the 27 even though he has the weakest hand

c. Firefighting in the full knowledge that he knows UK exports to the EU only account for about 7.5% of UK GDP.

d. What the hell - he won't get us to agree on fishing or the level playing field so he has nothing to lose except try to wind up the remainers in the UK.

Don't worry, the EU needs the UK much more than the UK needs the EU. That's obvious from barnier's stance. Which by the way, is still the same as in februari.
He declared there would be no trade deal unless the text he negotiated was complied with “to the letter” – and claimed that Britain had more to lose from the failure of the talks.

“The UK has been taking a step back — two steps back, three steps back — from the original commitments,” Mr Barnier said in an interview with*The Times*newspaper.

“The UK negotiators need to be fully in line with what the prime minister signed up to with us. Because 27 heads of state and government and the European parliament do not have a short memory.

I don't see that. Next week the next round of talks start. As planned in januari, after that boris and von der leyen sit down together and see if their representatives have made enough progress to be able to conclude a deal by november. If not, they stop negotiations, given the fact that boris is not extending the transition period. Either way, barnier has done his job, as a loyal civil servant.

Hi

Barnier and Frost are negotiators doing what the political masters say.

They are not the ones making the decisions.

They can both be replaced in an instant.

It is Boris versus Merkel and Macron, as simple as that.

Merkel and macron will stay in the background. It is von der leyen who will be discussing matters with boris. And boris is sucker when it comes to women.

This means that the EU will be paying us around €300 million before the end of the year, so we should spend that money on grants to coastal towns to help UK fishermen fund fishing boats and for additional policing of our territorial waters.

Like I told you in post #15 bread, you are a net contributor ho ho ho ho
