New Bridge Day

Five months later a New bridge will open linking the North and South of the town of Workington which was divided when the two bridges in the town were badly damaged, one collapsing and killing a local policeman.

Some people have had to do a round trip of 36 miles to get to town where they work.

If this had happened in London I would like to bet that a new bridge would have been in place within a couple of weeks.

Good Luck to the people of Workington.

Oh I second that - good luck to the people of Workington. That was a dreadful disaster and for that policeman doing his duty.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Was this where they had the terrible floods last year? Such a tragedy that was, it's good to hear that the town is slowly getting back to normal.

Yes it was, Workington and Cockermouth took the brunt of the floods but a lot of other places had damage which is still to be rectified.
11 bridges were either damaged or swept away. One farmer still has a 1 hour journey to feed his cattle.
Several farmers are faced with huge bills to rid their land of gravel from the river base.
