Re: Move or Stay

A revolution followed by our own version of Bastille Day could be good.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

Re: Move or Stay

Yes Victors Mate, this comes from the stage show Le Miserable, commonly referred to as: 'The Glums', BUT there is a much better one entitled 'The Internationale'

Arise ye starvelings from your slumbers,
arise ye criminals of want
for reason in revolt now thunders
and at last ends the age of cant,
now away with all your superstitions,
servile masses arise, arise
we'll change forthwith the old conditions,
and spurn the dust to win the prize

Then comrades come rally
and the last fight let us face,
The Internationale unites the human race,
then comrades come rally and the last fight let us face,
the Internationale, unites the human race.

Yes I know it is from Les Misérables. Just giving a plug to an old school mate. I once appeared in a sixth form concert produced and directed by Trevor Nunn.

What a great show that was, went to see that in Liverpool, when Colm Wilkinson was in it, wonderful.

Re: Move or Stay

Should be St Georges day, after all he is the saint of England.I thought May day was aLabour celebration, and what did the unions do for us but bring them out on strike and the women and children suffered. Annie.

Annie darlin' - this patron saint mularkey was something foisted on us by the catholic church - do we REALLY want to celebrate a Romano-Turkish reprobate centurion who knew nothing of and certainly never visited these shores.

Re: Move or Stay

I understood that May Day or labour day was introduced by the Labour Govt not too long ago. Whitsuntide is a church festival which follows Easter after 6 weeks, representing Christ rising from the dead and ascending into Heaven. When I was a child we had Whit Walks in Manchester. Annie.
