I am not a royalist but don't want to see them abolished . I would leave the royal family to get on with it without state subsidy.

If I work hard, go without luxuries and save every penny to spend on educating my child while the person next door spends their wages in the pub and on expensive holidays who is to say I am wrong?
I spent a lot of years working in a public school, quite a proportion of the children there were from overseas and they brought valuable currency to this country. Another group belonged to members of our serving forces who were not resident in the same place for long or people working abroad on short term contracts. These children needed a safe homely place to stay as well as an academic education and this is something not readily available in the state system The view of public school children belonging only to the rich is largely a misconception
