Re: Teachers

Joe, agree with renationalisetion of the public Utility services, cancellation of Academy schools, closing Tax loop holes but not the Jersey Isle of Man part.

Disagree with the rest as that sounds to much like Communism which is dictatorship what Brown wanted.

The Higher tax rate of 75p is extortion in the worse degree. How would you like to give up 75% of your earnings, only dictatorial people like Brown would treat the country's population like that.

A President!!! no way, we are to Amercanised as it is without the dirty money laundering politics being part of our system.
The Royalty bring in more money to the country than a president would tourism wise but I would cut the hangers on.

Have you ever thought of going to live in China? Their style of government might please you.

Aaaahhhh Antibrown, could it be you've squirreled away money in the tax havens of the Channel Islands or Isle of Man??? - these are a serious drain on our economy and the sooner someone closes the loophole the better we all will be. The 75p Income Tax rate would apply to anyone with a large income, not present rates of tax. Most of those with high earnings are paying Accountants to AVOID paying income tax - it is those people I am aiming my tax policy at.

The abolition of the Monarchy, would you call France too Americanised??? - they happen it be a Republic - so too are most modern democracies across the rest of Europe including Russia, I don't think they could be accused of being to Americanised. The Monarchy, does NOT bring in more money than they expend and the pomp and ceremony can still remain (I'll grit my teeth at that one), have you ever been in Paris on 14th July (Bastille Day) - they have vast parades along the Champs Elysee which attracts large numbers of tourists. The Russians do the same on 1st May and again 7th December (anniversary of the Russian Revolution). These too attract vast numbers of Tourists.

You clearly have no idea about Gordon Brown either - he would be horrified at most of the policies I advocate precisely because he is NOT a Socialist!!!

Finally, merely because I advocate enlightened political policies, does not give you the right to abuse me in thinking I would be better living in China.

Re: Teachers

Joe, I was not abusing you it was a tongue in cheek comment.

Lichtenstein is a bigger tax haven (better interest rates) than Jersey or the Isle of Man

Dont you know that the most evil dictators in history have come from Republic country's.

The Royalty also bring in trade to our country not just Tourism.
Give me Royalty over Presidency any day.

Re: Teachers

One point I would like to make about the Royals is that these days they do not govern/run the country - the modern monarch is a figurehead and is supposed to be non-political these days - a presidency does govern and is elected. Quite a difference I think.

Not really about teachers but in response to Uncle Joe....

Joe I agree with that..

I am not a royalist but don't want to see them abolished . I would leave the royal family to get on with it without state subsidy.

..this is where I start to differ from you Joe If I work hard, go without luxuries and save every penny to spend on educating my child while the person next door spends their wages in the pub and on expensive holidays who is to say I am wrong?

I spent a lot of years working in a public school, quite a proportion of the children there were from overseas and they brought valuable currency to this country. Another group belonged to members of our serving forces who were not resident in the same place for long or people working abroad on short term contracts. These children needed a safe homely place to stay as well as an academic education and this is something not readily available in the state system The view of public school children belonging only to the rich is largely a misconception .

I agree with that, the aim should be to raise the standard in all state schools not just a few.
