However, we do need to put our own house in order. The UK is in dire straits, this latest scandal only adds to our woes.

[QUOTE=Antibrown;109595]Joe, you are getting as bad as Ed Miliband, Yvette Cooper
and Dennis Skinner.

Yes the police said it was 'unexplained' but added the part you neglect to mention, 'Not thought to be Suspicious'.[/QUOTE

Dennis Skinner I'll go along with - good bloke - I've met him on a number of occasions and he is an 'old school' Socialist. The other two I regard as an insult, neither of them know the meaning of the word 'Socialist'!!!

Re: Exciting Times

Anyone see the Murdoch "interrogation" today ?

What a load of guff . . . the chap that hit him with a custard pie made a big mistake . . . it should've been an axe.

The chairman told Murdoch later that his wife (Murdochs) had a terrific left hook, she had lashed out at the young fella earlier.

Now . . . . I wonder . . . who is his employer . . . makes ya think don't it.

Re: Exciting Times

It's a pity it happened, now Murdock will gain some sympathy from some, because he's a (wily) old man. His cohorts will complain that he wasn't protected.

Re: Exciting Times

I'm totally surprised that no-one, has appreciated that there is a particular legal concept - vicarious liability which means (in the example of News Corp) that actions taken by employees are deemed to have been taken by the employer (i.e. Murdoch Snr & Jnr). Since its now a statement of fact that 'phone hacking took place, and 'phone hacking is illegal, then Murdoch Snr & Jnr should be immediately 'banged up!!!

Patience UJ. It could happen yet. I am sure the legal ramifications will be thoroughly explored by the Levenson enquiry and given solid evidence I am sure the DPP will prosecute.

After all the fuss MilliEd and co are making though, one does have to wonder why the previous government ignored the signs for thirteen years?

Simple answer to a simple question Gog matey, Blair and then Brown were being supported by Murdoch's press empire.

Being a suspicious and cynical old sod that I am, I am not convinced (on recent evidence) that the Met Police will make as thorough a job of their investigation as they could, neither do I have any trust in the DPP either (again on past experience of the incompetence within that department).

Re: Exciting Times

These government committee "interrogations" are a joke, a bunch of amateurs with no cohesive questioning policy and all grandstanding for the cameras. As for Keith Vaz, he should look to his own cupboards for the skeletons, I don't know how he has the gall to call anyone else corrupt with his personal record...

Well said Plantman.
The only questioner on the Murdoch/Brooks fiasco with any idea was Tom Watson. He has worked tirelessly to get this business out in the open but for the rest of them it was the largely corrupt, interviewing the mostly corrupt, about the highly corrupt.

All three of the 'turns' rang rings round the inept committee.
Murdoch Junior in particular gave a master class in equivocation. I watched all the proceedings yesterday and today as I was hoping for someone to have some sort of epiphany.

We would all then bathe in the afterglow of his or her Damascene moment and march off together in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of our once great nations integrity. Not really, I was waiting for a parcel to turn up but that, like my folorn hope has also failed to be delivered.

The Phantom flan flinger was not the only clown on show over this last two days.

Re: Exciting Times

Hacking - shmacking . . . . there is a law in place already regarding the tapping of peoples house phones . . . even the police have to obtain a court order to tap someones phone . . . why does this law not apply to mobile phones ?

I did a bit of research on this hacking lark and anyone can buy a scanner from any electronics store for as little as £45 . . . there are various types that scan military, police, and mobile bands . . . . why does anyone have the right to listen into these communcations ? . . . why would they want to ? . . . unless they have nefarious motives . . . I would amend the law to bring mobile and any other communications eavesdropping under the act that applies to house phone tapping.
