The £75000 bottle of wine.

There are people dying for instance, of starvation. Should the buyer and seller of this wine be ashamed of themselves?

Why should he feel ashamed of his financial success? Its not his duty to provide for the starving just because he's been fortunate in business.
A gesture of kindness to those less fortunate might be nice but I dont feel he should be ashamed.

Re: The £75000 bottle of wine.

Why should anyone be ashamed of buying something they can afford. If I had the money and it was what I wanted then I would buy it without a second thought.

Does anyone say anything to Victoria Beckham about her extravagant taste in fashion? She allegedly owns a 100 Hermès Birkin bags valued at about £1.5 million, one version alone being worth £80,000. They would not dare as she is a fashionista, whatever that is.

Now if the collector had proudly announced himself to be a Vegan and then sported the latest in crocodile or flamingo skin shoes you might have a point about money being better spent.

This buyer might also be one of the many successful business people who give fortunes to charitable causes without making a great deal of it and the press are never told for that specific reason.

One only has to look at the Mayday for Nurses campaign that some people within professional football got inolved in a few years ago. A few surprises in that list.

I don't know about this but guess the person is a collector and this will be the centrepiece of their collection?

People pay all sorts of 'silly money' for collectable items. I wouldn't want to spend that myself, under £8 is my limit on a bottle of wine and it wouldn't be a collected item for long .

OK folks, in many ways I agree with your point of view but watching the news at lunch time I thought of all the good that could be done with that sort of money, rather than spend it on a bottle of plonk to put in a case behind bullet proof glass. I can only hope that if it's ever opened, it's not found to be corked...

The seller should not be ashamed but the buyer should. Just think how many bottles of good Napoleon brandy you could buy with that money.

I could make use of it to make a marinade to cook my zebra steaks in.

I think he's a very clever business man, he gets all this free publicity and by Christmas the same bottle of wine is worth £100,000. Now if he was to drink it all to himself, that would be greedy, then he ought to be ashamed of himself.

My reply was in answer to 'Should the buyer and seller of this wine be ashamed of themselves?'..
Do I think he's mad? Yup, as a box of frogs but hey ho it's his money
