Does anyone have or know anyone who's had experience of having dental implants...I do know thats its very expensive ...but does anyone know if it's worth it?

Re: Dental Implants

It purely depends on your vanity, Sandra, and if you have the necessary finance.

If you have been involved in, say, a car accident, and had your front teeth knocked out, you will probably be covered by insurance.
If you are a model, that would also justify you wanting them if your own teeth were not 'perfect'.

You are probably looking at around £2,000 per tooth, and there is no guarantee that they will stay in. The specialist dentist (not your normal guy), has to assess bone regrowth. If you jaw does not grow back around the implant, it is going to come out again.

I am as ugly as sin, and way beyond the need to attract the ladies with my perfect smile. However, I am very vain about my teeth. I think I have five crowns now, and you would never know. In fact, they are so good that people assume I wear dentures.

My best advice is to talk to your dentist. I'm sure they will be able to show the way.

Re: Dental Implants

No experience.. just a thought. I think that if a person is younger.. like in their 40's and needs dentures, it would be worth it. But even the permanent dentures.. they call it the "All on 4" which is four implants on top and four on the bottom and then a full plate attached, is $43,000 here. WAY to much for someone in their 60's unless they were very wealthy.

At around $2,500 a tooth, its still way too much. I'm going with the regular denture.

I DO know someone who has ONE implant, and it was painful to chew on. I would have no interest in a post drilled down into my jawbone.

That's awful - looks like you have no choice - I feel for you, really do x
If you go for the implants - dose yourself with plenty of painkillers, at least you know theres an end in sight, the pain 'will' ease .......

Dont mind the pain Audrey as long as I get the gain...the kids dont mind me dippin in to thier inheritance either ..dont think I'm going to get on with dentures ...but I'm going to hang on to my existing teeth for as long as I can...dont think age comes into it ...quality of life will be far more important in my case..
