Re: Not for veggies

It will get strained, cooled and past through muslin before it`s ready but it is so easy and the bones were free

A good stock is so important and I have no time for those who say life is too short to make stock.

Re: Not for veggies

Nice one OG! I've never made meat stock - but do have plenty of vegetable stock... I even use it for my couscous! Would hate to see all those vitamins go to waste

Now I will be interested to see what you use your stock with

Re: Not for veggies

I like to make my own stock too; not as regularly as I should (Whole Foods organics are handy! ), but it does smell so delicious, especially on a cold Winter afternoon.

Anyone remember when the butcher would give you beef bones? Now we have to buy them ..... to quote your ditzy TV announcer, OG, O tempora, o mores!!

Now that is going too far. Bones should be free? I have been a customer of this butcher for over 17 years now so I suppose I take free bones for granted?

Yep, no such thing as free bones any more at the supermarkets here.

Re: Not for veggies

I would never dream of getting free bones from a supermarket. But I do have a real butcher only a few miles away.

And when we go to visit my mum I drop into this one as well-an abbatoir on site is very, very rare
