Yes, indeed it is.

When I first encountered the words 'tromba marina', I expected it to refer to a brass instrument or form of trumpet.

It isn't, of course, but the name was coined presumably because its sound did resemble (to an extent) a deep toned trumpet.

I look forward to seeing some more weird instruments on here!

I once asked a chap busking what his instrument (same as your pic) was and he told me it was a Nyckelharpa. Nice sound.
