Re: Chrome 69 released with new UI and random password generator

Also notable in Google’ latest Chrome release is the beginning of its flagging of less-secure HTTP websites. When users visit an HTTP page, they will no longer be labeled as “secure” on the navigation bar. And later, starting with Chrome 70, Google plans to take that a step further by actively labeling HTTP sites as “not secure” on the navigation bar.

The move comes as Google hopes to prompt a continued shift from HTTP pages to the more secure HTTPS websites, which encrypt traffic flowing to and from a website.

I don't like the way only the tab in use stays white and the other open tabs merge into the background I like all open tabs to be white ...

Re: Chrome 69 released with new UI and random password generator

The appearance of Chrome isn't set in stone. The developers make it possible to apply any one of hundreds of 'themes' that change the appearance of the toolbars (including tabs). A theme also changes other elements of the browser window. To install or try a theme, open Chrome and go here..

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/themes

* Click on a thumbnail.
* Click the 'Add to Chrome' button to install the theme.
* A temporary toolbar appears with an 'Undo' and 'Close (X)' button on it.
* If you don't want to keep the theme, click 'Undo' button (top left) to return to the standard appearance.
* Go back to the main page to select and try a different theme.
* To keep a theme, close the temporary Undo toolbar by clicking the 'X' on the right-hand side.

Some themes may not appear as expected, possibly because they haven't been updated to work with the latest version of Chrome.

Themes can be applied to Firefox but the changes a theme makes have to be undone in the 'Customise' options.

Re: Chrome 69 released with new UI and random password generator

I have begun to notice a dramatic downturn in download speeds and video playback quality using Chrome 69. Investigation revealed a dramatic upturn in Chrome processes (up to 40) and Chrome memory usage (up to 1GB).

This seems to be happening to many other users.
