And I'll drop out too. Nothing that I have read has changed my mind by one iota.

I'm outa here too....But I agree with Todger, the bloke blake was a 'no mark gangsta' and probably was just as ruthless and violent as the police were to him. I certainly won't lose any sleep over him. Just one more tosser taken off the streets......

Two countries that stand out for their police training are Finland and Norway.

Officers in both countries must attend their nations' three-year police universities, and leave with degrees that are equivalent to a bachelor's.

In many U.S. police departments, the stereotype is that officers in the prime of their careers try to avoid the burden of training rookies. What's left, is aging officers who themselves haven't been through training in decades, young cops who haven't gotten enough experience, or bad cops who get stuck with the assignment.

"Different departments have different incentives to sort of convince officers to do it, but the bottom line is that in many departments the worst officers are the ones training."

Re: American Cops - again

Very interesting Cinderella, and it makes a lot of sense !and
Should be followed up on !
But imo the main problem is the prevalance of guns and the
willingness to use them in all sections of the american society,
this is caused by america's history and firearms culture seems
be embedded in the peoples psychology and will be difficult if
not impossible to change?
The police now tend to rely on the gun as the first thing to use
instead of it being the last, and in fact quite often they use it to
carry out justice instead of using it to bring suspects too justice,
thus short curcuiting the actual justice system of the courts !
The policeman in fact becomes the judge and the executioner often
even in what are quite minor misdemeanours because the suspect
moved incorrectly or something !
Better training would definitely improve this aspect of policing and
combined with better phycological screening etc could make a
difference?

Re: American Cops - again

It all comes down to money in the US. Norway and Finland don't compare with the US model of doing things. You can't compare a country with a federal model and 328m population with two countries of 5m each.

Activists in Kenosha say police there have responded aggressively and violently to Black Lives Matter demonstrators, while doing little to stop armed white vigilantes. Supporting their claims is at least one video taken before the shooting that showed police tossing bottled water to what appeared to be armed civilians, including one who appeared to be the shooter, the AP noted: “We appreciate you being here,” an officer said on loudspeaker.

Police also reportedly let the gunman walk past them with a rifle as the crowd yelled for him to be arrested because he had shot people, according to witnesses and video reviewed by the news agency.

Seems Donkeyman that the police have deep-rooted, entrenched influence in the ranks.
