Not really. Lottery gives you a 1 in 14 million chance of willing.

If the average person lives to age 80 and if you bought a lottery ticket once per week for all 80 of those years (your parents doing it for you whilst you are a baby/kid) then in total you would only have entered a paltry 4160 draws.

14 million combinations and in your lifetime you only have time to enter 4160 draws.

It is, and always has been, an exercise in futility, reserved for the sillier and more easily duped members of society.
Same goes for horse racing.

Re: Trying to turn £2 into £1000

Keep trying Purwell.
Let's face it £2 does not constitute a gambling problem ( it won't even buy me a pint but that's my problem)
A friend of mine is a qualified accountant, he works part time as a barman. As his "proper" job he bets on horses, football and poker. Makes a decent living as well.
I love a day at the races ( the film as well) but I am quite hopeless when it comes to backing the horses, but as I include my bets in the cost of the day any wins are a bonus.

I always bet a fixed amount, so much per race and rarely go for anything out of the first 3 in the betting.

Re: Trying to turn £2 into £1000

If fluttering away some money provides an interest, I wouldn't think that any different to spending money on other pastimes or forms of entertainment. Many of these have to be paid for as well and like gambling, once the entertainment is over, it vanishes into the past and the money is gone.

I don't do cards or the horses but used to spend money on lottery tickets. Broke even over the period as it happens (there are smaller wins that can happen from time to time). Win or lose though, I bought something that provided a couple of Pound's-worth of interest in life. That reason for buying into the lottery is good enough for me.

I once read, you have a better chance of walking up to a stranger in the street and guessing their telephone number than you do guessing the winning numbers of the lottery!

I never do the lottery. In my head I win £2 or even £4 every week by not doing the lottery!!

Re: Trying to turn £2 into £1000

It's become a kind of tradition that the children and I buy a couple of lines on a lottery ticket between us when they come to stay. That's about the only time I do now.

I feel life might be less enjoyable if I only spent money thoroughly sensibly. The feeling of winning (or getting back) £120 on the lottery was definitely worth the money spent up to then. I'm easily pleased.
