Asti has a problem

Well, Tuesday morning one of her eyes was closed and wouldn't open so I got an appointment at the vets and took her down. The vet put some dye in her eye and had a look in her eye with one of those instruments with a light on it and said she had Uveitis. She was given an anti-inflammatory shot (Metacam), plus some eye drops and told me to come back the next day to have it checked on.

Asti's eye was open and looked normal this morning but looked cloudy in the pupil of that eye. I took her back to the vets this morning and she turned the light off and had another look in the eye with that instrument and she took Asti quickly for a second opinion. When she came back with her she said she thinks that Asti may have a cataract at the back of her eye and asked if she could be hospitalised today so they can run blood tests on her and give her a light sedative to properly look in her eye. So our dear little Asti is in there at the moment. I took her in at 9.20 am it's now 3.30 pm and waiting to hear when we can pick her up.

If it is a cataract at the back of her eye, it's very rare and unusual to have that at her age . She's 8 in December.

I'll keep you all posted on her situation when she is back from the vets.

Re: Asti has a problem

Thanks Annie-Jack.

The vet has just phoned me, she has got Uveitis and has a cataract at the back of her eye. The vet has been in touch with an eye specialist for dogs and the vet advises Asti to have an operation to move the lens and to take the cataract out. The operation will cost £2,000. Luckily Asti is insured. The Uveitis has to be under control before they can do the op.

The vet is waiting for the eye specialist to call her back so she knows the best medication to treat the Uveitis then Asti can come home.

Can't believe all this has happened

I was talking to a friend and her Westie had the same but that dog was 13 years old.

Re: Asti has a problem

Thank you all for your good wishes for Asti.

She is home now and I have some eye drops to put in her eye four times a day, but next week or even this Friday she will have to have an operation costing £2.000 Luckily she is insured. The eye specialist we've got to take her to is miles away. They will probably do the operation straight away when we take her for her consultation. They will remove the lens of her eye and remove the cataract before glacoma sets in

All this has happened in the last two days!!!!! It wasn't there beforehand. I just can't believe it Plus hubby has got a bad ankle and leg due to varcose veins so I will have to drive and hubby will come with me and Asti.
