Scared ?????

Have you ever been scared? I mean really scared not the BOO jump out at you fright?

I was a few years back, scared of being told I might be going blind. Think of it, never seeing anything again ever. Total darkness for the rest of you life.

What happened is I went for new glasses and the pressure test for glaucoma was right off the scale in one eye. So got referred to my GP who then sent me to see a specialist in hospital.
Panic already started "I am going blind possible" type of scare.

Well one eye had to be operated on so appintment booked shortly afterwards and told not to drive to the hospital.
On the day turned up terrified absolutely. So the nurse started putting drops in one eye to deaden any feeling and had to then wait for the drops to take effect

Then the operation to remove the eyeball from its socket with the good eye covered up. Thank goodness for those drops I didn't feel a thing.

Afterwards hard to remain for a time until they deemed it ok for me to go home a couple of hours later.

I didn't know it but Sue said it looked strange one eye moving and the other not on the way home in the car, it took until the next day before things were ok but had to wear an eye patch for several nights to stop me rubbing it.

The operation was to insert a "Stent" behind the eyeball to allow fluid to drain keeping the pressure down, The other eye I have to have drps in 3 times a day.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones to have my problem noticed earlier enough . Still have to go for checkups every 6 months but so far no more problems

Oh gosh! That sounds scary!
Can I ask if you could see through the eyeball when they took it out? That would be weird!

Hope all is ok now x

My husband also has Glaucoma and has eye drops twice a day.

He had 3 monthly check-ups, now extended to 6 monthly checks.

No you can't see anything the optic nerves are numbed by the drops and the other eye is covered up.

Yes thank you everything is ok now

Re: Scared ?????

I've told this story before recently but..encore..When I was beaten and kicked nearly to death by a skinhead when I was 19. I wasn't scared at the time because it was a bit like a car accident. It is all very surreal and kind of slow motion. But later in hospital I was very scared. I thought I was going to die. The broken ribs felt like a heart attack and my ruptured bladder felt like no pain I had ever had before. When I eventually did have a heart attack years later I realised that that pain back then was worse. The other really scary time was seeing a shark very close by when I was surfing. But that happens to all surfers sometime. All good.

THank you Mups. It was pretty awful at the time. I was living in Perth at the time. I spent a while in rehab before I could go home to Sydney. I had to learn to breathe properly with the ribs healing. The rest would be too much information. And yes the bloke was arrested, charged and deported back to the UK along with the rest of his gang ( They were tourists) I can't
quite remember what else happened to him. Didn't care really. I was just happy that he was gone.

Re: Scared ?????

How frightening for you both RS and Keezoy .

I was frozen with fear one night . Living in the country with 2 small babies my husband often left us alone which I became used to , but one night we had rowed and he cleared off as he usually did and I wasnt phased . Getting ready for bed I heard a noise at a back door that was never used , in fact it was permanently locked , I lifted the heavy door curtain and could see the handle slowly moving , I ran for a large kitchen knife as the door and heavy curtains slowly opened as I lifted the knife I froze in fear , could could have done nothing had that person come to kill me and my babies, I was truly incapable of saving us , petrified frozen to the spot.

It was my husband coming in through a door never used because he thought I had locked him out after the row .

It was the most horrendous feeling not being able to protect my children had it been a worse situation . I truly understand how fear can freeze a body and mind and spirit

I divorced the man years later and should have done is sooner, but circumstances made it impossible 45 years ago
