Poor woman!
Although, my sister had the best private treatment and still didn't survive.

The waiting lists will be even longer now. I don't understand why cancer tests, treatment and surgery had to stop. More people are dying now! If they'd used the Nightingale hospitals for all virus patients, it may not have.

I remember when you could go to your GP and get a scan appointment the same week. Something has to be done to get things at least back to how they were before this government got in.

So very sad to read . Some of us seem to be lucky if that is the right word, maybe , blessed , is better . Blessed with good or better health . Some so poorly so young . We take it for granted that we wake healthy and well .

I dont know what will happen to our sick people I feel deeply for them

It is extremely sad that the NHS has been reduced to a shadow of its former self and that people are dying because of its inadequacy. Covid has exposed its weakness to the world but it is up to you to campaign for its funding and rebuilding because it is clearly not fit for purpose.

It doesn't have to be so. Our conservatives acknowledged some years ago that the population supported the Medicare system and vowed not to harm it. They still encourage people to take out private medical insurance with tax subsidies to relieve pressure on the public system but generally our health system works well despite being split between federal and state systems

The States administer the hospital system so there are slight variations in organisation between states but it is all funded by the federal government who also run Medicare and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is Australia's regulatory authority for therapeutic goods.

It is a political thing and the NHS is worth saving.

Re: Frightening article

There is too much corruption in the public sector for the NHS to ever become worthwhile. Policy makers making decisions and votes that serve their own financial benefit. Private companies given public sector contracts ripping off the public sector with their extortionate high prices for everyday common things. Pharmaceutical companies charging extortionate prices for their drugs because they know at the end of the day, the NHS will pay those prices.

Politics is corrupt, politicians are corrupt. For decades no one in government has ever wanted to seriously tackle the issues the NHS suffers because to do so means some of their friends or family members will end up in crosshairs due to their involvement in a company that has links to the NHS.

The only time the public ever get's to know about what is truly going on with the NHS is when whistle-blowers come forward but even then what they have to say is suppressed by the government or they are threatened with court action.

In the private sector the mantra has always been 'If you want the best, you have to pay the best'. This is not so with many in the public sector, unless your a 'media' personality or an MP, who both award themselves obscene pay rises whilst NHS workers struggle to get by because of Labours open door policy which allowed cheap EU labour to flood into the UK which stagnated the wages of NHS workers. The constant refusal from the government year in year out to give pay rises to NHS workers meant thousands upon thousands of UK educated, qualified and highly experienced doctors and nurses left the profession only to be filled by cheap labour from not only the EU but also from far afield from the Asian continent.

The NHS will never get better, not to level where we would expect appointments to take place in a few days rather than weeks or even months.

The NHS is a political football. The Tories have always tried to destroy it. But it was the 2012 act that created the biggest shambles. Changes in the GP contract, removal of the nursing bursary, changes to the consultant contract, changes to the Junior doctor contract. All have led to chaos and professionals retiring or going elsewhere. It's held together by sheer determination to heal people despite all the political obstacles.

Please supply supporting data for that very sweeping statement, Annie.
