The rain Forest of Brazil

Is once again under threat.

The new President says the indigenous people have too much land and more must be given to the farmers.

These primitive people don't have a prayer.
nor does the rainforest.

I truly believe that the world should pay to keep the rainforest rainforest.

It is the lungs of the world apart from anything else.

Unfortunately Muddy it seems that the indigenous people of
the Amazon are going the same way as all the other native
peoples before them, such as the red lndians of N america/
the aboriginals of Australia/ the koi koi & koi san of southern
Africa etc etc!
These peoples will be restricted and constricted untill they
disappear, and their land will be converted to pasture or
arable lands, and unless we change our methods of farming
will deteriorate into semi desert!
It seems to be inevitable l'm afraid!
As regards the atmosphere we are lucky that a good bit of
our oxygen actually is produced by the oceans!
But who knows with warming of the oceans this could
change? Perhaps the planet will readjust itself once humans
have all died of asphyxiation?

Donkeyman.
What you say is so very true. I think that the whole world is becoming over populated and in the not too distant future, Say three hundred years, man will become extinct due to his greed by wanting more and more. The human population just cannot keep growing at the present rate.

Aside from the sad social impacts a natural CO2 sink will be reduced. Another means of mitigating climate change disappearing.

Another factor to consider regarding carbon storage is
the big vswing to veganism! Apparently this is creating
extra demand for soya based products which in turn is
causing farmers to clear forests to grow soya beans because
the price for soya has increased due to the extra demand?
Seems anything we do now only makes things worse?

Perhaps the multi billionares will save us all BB! They seem
to be getting interested in space travel just lately?
Maybe they believe they can make more money by colonising
space? Can you imagine the CO2 created by thousands of
Virgin Voyagers taking off!
Sorry, just musing again!

They would be better employed buying or renting tracts of rainforest in order to preserve it .
However governments being what they are these things can be revoked too easily.

Re: The rain Forest of Brazil

I spent a year working on a mega project in Brazil in 1999. It was the last project I worked on before gardening leave into 2000.

Brazil is exceptionally beautiful in most places but is corrupt to a degree that I had never experienced anywhere before. Even worse than Nigeria and THAT is saying something.

There is absolutely NOTHING that can't be bought or sold.

The oceans provide HUGE CO2 sinks. That's often wrongly overlooked.
