front door letter box

the brass flap for the front door letterbox was old pittied brass type thing.Having just replaced the door knob this looked really grotty.. So off to the DIY store for a new one the same size and shape.

Great so for until******* removing the old one the totally previous idiot owner and cemented/plaster? in the threaded stud that retains the front face plate to the back of the door. Yes cement or plaster both just as hard to remove.

So next job was to dig out the threaded stud and see the damage he had created. Found the answer the actual wood in between front and back plate ( the actual door) had been made too wide.

Ok easy solved problem by adding wide spacer washers for the retaining nuts to hold onto. . This then gave me the ability to refix the front door letterbox plate.

So now our front door is looking smart again

The brass letterbox is so elegant that junk mail should be dissuaded. Hope it works!

Nicely done, realspeed.
