Tarantula; it's not the dogs that are dangerous, as this story shows it is the owners who are dangerous. I have come across several really good owners of Staffies which many people say are dangerous and the Staffies have been seriously clumsy but only wanted to be fussed, stroked and cuddled.

I don't doubt staffies are good with people I just don't trust them with other dogs particularly vulnerable ones. My experience is they are murderous creatures will attack vulnerable dogs on sight. There are other breeds do the same but without the deadly results.

No dog is born bad, it's once it's sold into the hands of wretched type owners that the troubles start. Blame the humans not the animal.

I agree. We got ours as a rescue. He was picked up as a stray by the game warden so no prior history.

We went to the rescue centre to see him and I would have taken him there and then. Something about his demeanour.
Not allowed. We had to go back several days in succession and walk him round their field. Then we had a home visit to ensure that we had a suitable place. Only then were we allowed to take him. Six weeks later, there was a follow up visit to ensure that he was settled in and happy with his new home.

If all prospective owner had to go through something similar, I think there would be fewer badly behaved owners and dogs.

That can work the other way .
‘Gatekeepers ‘ looking not for a perfect home not just a good one make it so difficult for genuine people to adopt a dog they give up and just buy one .
That is why so many dog sanctuaries are overwhelmed with dogs .
Earnest people in shelters have got to stop treating would be adoptees as potential dog abusers .
By doing so they inadvertently support more dog breeding .

10 weeks? What he did was so, so cruel. Everyone knows you shouldn't go near puppies when mum is around, they are fiercely protective.

It was bad enough what the evil pig did but to let it suffer 3 whole days beggars belief. This has really sickened me, that poor dog.

I'm not arguing that point but one of our more murderous pups came to us from s great home but she had been attacked by her mother who killed her other pups. Sometimes the mother dog sets the pup up with a bad idea of how to behave. The pup may be innocent or I do wonder if it's in their genes. I am not confident to say which definitively though.

Re: American Bulldog killed

A dog like a child needs to be socialised as a puppy .
If it misses this vital time ( before sixteen weeks) it may never be a trusty safe dog.
I used to live in the Carribean where there are among others many pit bulls which shamefully they use for dog fighting as well as guard dogs .
The one thing is many Caribbean people love puppies and make a lot of fuss over young dogs .
Unfortunately they tire of this when the pup becomes a dog and they are often abandoned or just kicked out or worse .
Dogs from the many shelters there tend to be friendly despite bad treatment because poor things they remember that once they were loved by humans.
Pit bulls can be loyal loving dogs it’s a shame they have been brutalised by thugs for their tough guy image .

We got ours when he was a year old. He was shy, nervous, and not socialised when we first got him. Now he wants to meet and greet everyone.
